Damien Clayton is to join Ribble Pro Cycling with immediate effect following a hugely successful 2019 campaign so far. Damien has shown incredible progression over the past 18 months, culminating recently in a podium at the Beaumont Trophy. He has shown a consistent high level of performance throughout the season since his 2nd place at the hotly contested Perfs Pedal Race in February.
Damien said on his decision to join the team; “Ribble is a team that I ultimately respect and look up to and is one that I have had my eye on since being introduced to the sport. I believe it is a team that will offer me a great deal whilst teaching me a lot. During this season I have been inspired by the team spirit which in turn delivers results. The new dimension this team is delivering to the cycling scene is not only refreshing but inspiring, everything from the tactical panache, choice of sponsors and the new way of thinking. It goes without saying that I am honoured to join such a strong team and look forward to contributing the best I can to the team.”
Ribble Pro Cycling added; “Damien is going to be an invaluable asset to the team. He is versatile and really well suited to the unique demands of UK racing. His progression has been very impressive, particularly considering he has been largely racing on his own. We are confident that with a broader race program, exposure to some bigger events and the framework of the team to support him, Damien will only to continue to exceed expectations. We pass on our thanks to Damien’s current team Andy Moores for their support and facilitation of the move.”
Damien joins the team from 1st August, and his first race in Ribble Pro Cycling colours will be the Isle of Man stage race.
Ribble Pro Cycling have continued to develop year on year and built a sustainable platform for success and progression. The team are competing at a UCI continental level in 2019. The team are coming off the back of their maiden victory at the HSBC UK Elite Road Series alongside medaling at both the National Road and Time Trial Championships. Moving into the final phase of the season the team switch to a more European program.
